EPS - Events Per Second (EPS) is a metric used in evaluating log management and related tools. It represents the total number of network and security events, accumulated from various network devices, that must be managed per second.
Organizations decide what events must be monitored on servers, network appliances (like firewalls), databases, and applications. They make these decisions based on policy, the sensitivity of the information on the network or the need to comply with laws, standards and regulations. These events are logged. They are sometimes aggregated on one device to make log management easier.
On large networks, EPS can run into the tens of thousands of events per second.
