Strawman - An idea that is put forth to discuss and pick apart. The concept comes from the practice of using dummies made of clothing stuffed with straw for scarecrows or combat-training targets. Strawmen ideas and concepts are supposed to be treated as a bundle of items tied together that can be dissected and discussed and replaced with more thoroughly-though-out alternatives.
