synchronous -
(1) [physics] Occurring together, or at the same time. (2) [data transfer] In data transmission, precisely timed and steady transmission of information that allows for higher rates of data exchange. (3) [programming] In programming, a series of actions or events that must occur in a specified sequence. For example, a program that launches another program and waits for it to finish before continuing is said to be synchronous.
