These islands, the Chagos Archipelago in the Indian Ocean are a British Overseas Territory. In October 2024, the United Kingdom agreed to hand sovereignty of the islands over to Mauritius, whilst retaining delegated sovereignty over the island of Diego Garcia which contains the joint UK and US military base for at least 99 years[1].
The islands and island groups are:
