Note that the Indian numbering system is used in Pakistan, whereby digits are written grouped in twos apart from the final three before the decimal point. Thus, a lakh (one hundred thousand) is written 1,00,000.00 and a crore (ten million, written karor or کروڑ in Urdu) is written 1,00,00,000.00.
Pakistan has 66 languages. The official languages are Urdu (10 719 000 mother-tongue speakers) and English (mainly second-language speakers). The other main languages are: Eastern Balochi (1 730 000 speakers) (written in Urdu script); Southern Balochi (2 350 000 speakers) (written in Urdu script); Western Balochi (1 000 000 speakers) (written in Urdu script); Brahui (1 500 000 speakers) (written in Nastaliq script); Eastern Farsi (1 000 000 speakers); Gujarati ; Northern Hindko (1 875 000 speakers); Western Panjabi (30-45 000 000 speakers) (written using Perso-Arabic script); Eastern Pashto (9 585 000 speakers) (written using Perso-Arabic script); Southern Pashto (1 000 000 speakers) (written using Perso-Arabic script); Saraiki (15 000 000 speakers) and Sindhi (16 992 000 speakers) (written in Arabic and Gurumukhi scripts).

Pakistani postal codes (introduced in 1988 and known locally as Post Codes) consist of a block of 5 digits. The first two indicate the routing district, the last three the post office. The first digit cannot be 0.
