Rules-Based Machine Translation - Original machine translation solutions that combined the theories of traditional and generative grammarians, linguists who dealt with an idealized speaker or listener with a focus on precision; they converted their grammars into systematic, encyclopedic sets of rules encompassing grammar, morphology, and meaning, to enable programmers to encode this information in rule sets and dictionaries. Commonly abbreviated RBMT.
