Surrogate Standard - A standard of known concentration added to environmental samples for Quality_ control purposes. A surrogate standard is unlikely to be found in environmental samples but has similar properties. Surrogates are intended to monitor for recovery differences, problems during the extraction phase of the analysis and for any potential matrix interferences.
