The Comoros are an archipelago consisting of the three islands of Njazidja (Grand Comore), Nzwani (Anjouan) and Mwali (Mohéli). The fourth island in the archipelago, Mayotte, elected to remain part of France when the Comoros became independent from that country in 1975.

The official languages are Arabic and French (1 700 speakers). 97% of the population speak Comorian . There are some speakers of Shigazidja Comorian on Njazidja, and 700 people speak Malagasy .
Personal names are usually formatted following the Muslim norms. Forms of address are often written in Arabic or French.
Tables of names can be acquired: given names , surnames/family names , family name prefixes , forms of address , job titles
Any address written in a non-native language will be written in French. Deliveries are made only to post office boxes (Boîte Postale, or BP).
Though postal deliveries are only to mailing addresses, street addresses will be found for the use of couriers, visitors etc. As not all streets are named, these may often be descriptive and unstructured. Examples:
