The national language is Portuguese , spoken by about 2 000 first-language speakers and 11 500 second language speakers. Almost the whole population speak Yue Cantonese . There are a small number of speakers of Macanese , a Portuguese creole, and English is also spoken.

Numbers in Macao do not have area codes, and have a length of 8 digits when called from abroad. Mobile numbers commence with a 6.
