Malawi counts 15 languages. The official languages are English and Nyanja (3 200 000 speakers). Also spoken are Afrikaans ; Kachchi ; Kokola (74 466 speakers); Lambya (41 000 speakers); Lomwe (1 550 000 speakers); Mpoto (40 000 speakers); Ngoni (758 000 speakers); Nkakyusa-Ngonde (300 000 speakers); Malawi Sena (255 000 speakers); Tonga (662 000 speakers); Yao (1 003 000 speakers) and Zulu (37 480 speakers).

Addresses will usually be a post office box or private bag number and will be written in English.
Though postal deliveries are only to mailing addresses, street addresses will be found for the use of couriers, visitors etc. As not all streets are named, these may often be descriptive and unstructured. Examples:

Malawi introduced a postal code systems on 19th May 2019. The codes have 6 digits in the format 999999.
The first digit indicates the region: 1 for Northern, 2 for Central and 3 for Southern.
The next two digits indicate the district or city. Check the table in the “Administrative Districts” section for the postal code ranges per district.
The fourth digit is a 1 for rural areas, and a 2, 3 or 4 for urban areas.
The final two digits indicate the (Sub-)transitional authority, (urban) area, community (BOMA), national park, reserve or township.
