Mauritania has 8 languages. Hassaniya Arabic (1 800 000 speakers) is the official language. There are 150 000 speakers of Fulfulde .
Personal names are often formatted according to Arabic traditions, but ould is used to mean “son of” and ment to mean “daughter of”.
Women retain their maiden names upon marriage.
Tables of names can be acquired: given names , surnames/family names , family name prefixes , forms of address , job titles
Delivery is to post office boxes only. This is usually written in French as BP, or Boîte Postale.
Though postal deliveries are only to mailing addresses, street addresses will be found for the use of couriers, visitors etc. As not all streets are named, these may often be descriptive and unstructured. Examples:

Mauritanian telephone numbers have no area codes. Subscriber numbers have 8 digits. Mobile numbers begin with 22, 27, 33, 36-37, 44, 46-47.
