Montserrat is a British Overseas Territory. Its population is concentrated now in the north of the island after major volcanic eruptions in 1995 destroyed the capital and many other settlements.

Montserrat introduced a postal code (known locally as a Postcode) in 2015. They have the format:

for example:
MSR1110
The second digit can currently be between 1 and 3, the third 1, 2, 3 or 5.
The first digit indicates the parish, the second a postal district, and the third and fourth a post office box range or a distribution area. In actuality, each code currently simply points to an individual (sub-)post office.
