Nepal counts 124 languages. The official language is Nepalese , with 9 900 000 speakers. The other main languages are Awadhi (540 000 speakers); Bhojpuri (1 370 000 speakers); Limbu (254 088 speakers); Eastern Magar (288 383 speakers); Western Magar (210 000 speakers); Maithili (2 260 000 speakers); Newari (700 000 speakers); Eastern Tamang (600 000 speakers); Northwestern Tamang (200 000 speakers); South-western Tamang (100 000 speakers); Dang Tharu (228 000 speakers) and Rana Thakur Tharu (194 000 speakers).
