Overlays - The authorized use of a list to add information and data, through match identification, by tagging to another list. The transfer can be demographics, or a telephone number, or a job function, even psychographic data on buying habits.

Overlay - An overlay is the process used to append a customer or prospect mailing list with demographic data or other information.

(1) [analysis/geoprocessing] A spatial operation in which two or more maps or layers registered to a common coordinate system are superimposed, either digitally or on a transparent material, for the purpose of showing the relationships between features that occupy the same geographic space. (2) [analysis/geoprocessing] In geoprocessing, the geometric intersection of multiple datasets to combine, erase, modify, or update features in a new output dataset.
