28 languages are spoken in Namibia. The official language is English (100 000 speakers). There are 146 000 Afrikaans -speakers; 141 000 Herero -speakers; 30 000 Kwambi -speakers and 90 000 Nama -speakers.

Addresses written in a non-native language are likely to be written in English. Deliveries are to post office boxes or locked bags only.
Though postal deliveries are only to mailing addresses, street addresses will be found for the use of couriers, visitors etc. As not all streets are named, these may often be descriptive and unstructured, but usually written in English. Examples:

A 5-digit code has now been implemented in Namibia. The code is written on its own as the last line of the address block. The first two digits indicate the region, the final two the delivery post office. All codes commence with number ranges between 10 and 23. The third digit is currently always 0. The fourth digit ranges from 0 to 3.

Namibian fixed geographic numbers have area codes with a length ranging between 2 and 4 digits when called from abroad, and a total number length of 8 to 9 digits. Mobile numbers have a total of 9 digits and the area codes 60, 81, 82 or 85.
