The official language is English . 65 other languages are spoken. The most widely spoken of these are ’Are’are (10 800 speakers); Kwaio (10 600 speakers); Kwara’ae (21 000 speakers); Lau (10 300 speakers) and To’abaita (18 400 speakers).

Deliveries are made to post office boxes. Post office boxes may be a combination of letters and numbers. The name of the island is written on the last line of the address.
Though postal deliveries are only to mailing addresses, street addresses will be found for the use of couriers, visitors etc. As not all streets are named, these may often be descriptive and unstructured, but usually written in English. Examples:
Solomon Islands is implementing, from July 2017, the locational code What3Words (http://www.what3words.com) as its national address system. It remains to be seen how widely this will be used and supported. Plans for a postal code system announced in 2021 would suggest that uptake has not been good and that it will be replaced.
