There are 16 languages spoken in Suriname. The official language is Dutch . Other widespread languages are: Guyanese (50 000 speakers); Caribbean Hindi (150 000 speakers); Caribbean Javanese (60 000 speakers) and Sranan (120 000 speakers).
Any address written in a non-native language will be written in Dutch. For additional information on address components, please refer to the chapter on The Netherlands.

Surinamese telephone numbers have no area codes. Fixed-line subscriber numbers have 6 digits, mobile numbers have 7 digits. Mobile numbers commence with a digit between 7 and 9.
