The official language is Spanish , spoken by 97% of the population. There are 39 other spoken languages, many Indian languages spoken in the interior. The most widely spoken of these is Wayuu (170 000 speakers).
The abbreviation used for Señorita in Venezuela is Srta.
Each person usually has a given name followed by two family names, that of the father followed by that of the mother, for example:
Barbara Betancourt Perez
Upon marriage, females may take their husband’s name as a further given name, in this way:
Barbara Betancourt Perez de Lopez
where the de indicates “(wife) of”. De usually indicates a married female, but may also be part of a name.
Professional people are often referred to by their qualification, followed by the given name and paternal family name (and sometimes the maternal family name):

The name of the administrative region may appear after the postal code or on the line above the postal code. This is the case in the example with the abbreviation D.F. (Distrito Federal). R.C. in the second example indicates a route carrier number.

When addresses are written in Spanish, calle, the Spanish word for street, is rarely written. The Spanish thoroughfare type, when included, is written before, and separately from, the thoroughfare name. It should be written with the first letter in lower case.

The word for post office box is Apartado or Apdo. Apartado Postal is also found.
These consist of a block of 4 digits written after the settlement name. Codes commence with the number in the range 1-8. The first two digits refer to the region, the final two to the delivery office. Post office box addresses in Caracas sometimes include a letter in the code, written in this format:

One of the 23 state names (estados , singular - estado) may be found in addresses. Please see the section on ‘Example address format’. Venezuela also has a federal district (distrito federal) and a federal dependency (dependencia federal) consisting of 11 federally controlled island groups with a total of 72 individual islands.

All Venezuelan area codes have 3 digits when dialled from abroad. Subscriber numbers have 7 digits. Mobile area codes are 412, 414-416, 424, 426.
